Hello, today I would like to talk about the Choctaw tribe. I will talk about what the tribe ate, their religions, the climate, entertainment, the culture and some interesting facts.
To begin, I would like to talk about the food the Choctaw ate. They ate sunflowers, berries, corn, squash and beans (known as the three sisters). The women planted the seeds and harvested them to make cornmeal and other spices. They also ate fish, deer, and wild turkey. The men would bring their sons and teach them how to hunt with a bow and arrows, tomahawks and clubs. They also enjoyed cornbread, soups, and stews.
Now I would like to talk about the Choctaw religion. The Choctaw tribe considered the sun to be a god. They considered the moon to be the sun's wife, and the stars are the children of the sun and the moon.
Next I would like to talk about the climate.
During the summer the temperatures tend to be in the 70's
and in the winter it is usually in the 30's.
The warmest month of the year is July.
The temperature is 90.40 degrees.
The coldest month of the year is January
The temperature is 23.20.
The wettest month of the year is May.
The average rainfall is 5.72 inches.
Next let's talk about what the tribe did for entertainment.
People may think that Native Americans are different ,
but they are just like everyone else.
The kids played with each other, went to school,
helped around the house.
Many Choctaw children liked going hunting and fishing
with there fathers. Some games and toys were Beaded dolls,
swimming, foot races, guessing games, Toli (Toli is a lacrosse like stick ball game), and Chunky.(Chunky is a stone rolled over the ground while several players throw spears in a attempt to indicate where the stone will stop rolling).
Do you want to learn about the Choctaw culture? Here is what I know.
For generations, the Choctaw played stickball. They also had a traditional stealing partners dance. They also had a tradition to make swamp cane basket.
And now finally I would like to tell you about some interesting facts that you might be interested in. Did you know that the choctaw dressed their deceased and laid their favorite food and drinks next to them? They might have laid down drinks like sassafras tea. Then they killed the family dog so that the dog may accompany the deceased on the journey to the Heaven.
Now I hope you know what the Choctaw ate, their religion, the climate, the entertainment, culture and some interesting facts.
